We purchased our first Large Blacks in the summer of 2012.  Since then we have been dedicated improving the genetic make up of this breed. We have found that the breed lacked skeletal structure. First and foremost we have been working from the ground up. Getting the pigs to have the proper foundation upon which to build the rest of the hog is paramount. In order to carry more muscle you must have the skeleton there to support it, which will make you more profitable at the market. We are focused on selecting our breeding animals not only for their elite phenotype, but also for their ability to perform at a high level in a variety of production environments. Our focus on selection criteria that emphasizes the animals robust skeletal build and economically important performance traits makes our Boar and Sow inventory unique to Large Black breeders and enthusiasts. We currently have four boar lines and five sow lines which include Defender, Majestic, Malcolm (British) and Super (British) boar lines and Matilda, Daisy, Warbler, Prudence and Charlotte sow lines.

We worked with The Livestock Conservancy and Purdue University on a research project.  Through that project we were able to bring the British Malcolm and Super boar lines onto our farm.  We were also able to trade with other breeders in the program which brought us the Prudence and Warbler sow lines.

Our goals are to offer high-performing breeding animals that contribute to our customers profitability. Preserve the genetics of proven superior sires and dams which expands their ability to influence genetic progress in the Large Black and cross swine industry for a longer period of time. Supply robust genetic options at an economical price. Provide world-class swine industry expertise, as well as genuine and thorough customer service by providing leadership, oversight, recommendations on genetic programs, animal handling etc.

We are also serving as the current president of the Large Black Hog Association.
