Hailing from the Caribbean, this Cushaw squash also goes by the name Tennessee Sweet Potato Squash and is part of the Slow Foods Arc of Taste! Very tolerant of humid conditions and is renowned for exceptional pumpkin pies. Expect heavy yields of 15 lb crookneck fruit with pale green stripes over white. The thin rind is less suitable for long term storage. Resistance to squash vine borers. Contrary to the name, winter squash is actually grown in the summer, started the same time as summer squash, but it takes much longer to mature. When it is ripe the fruits will have a hard outer shell and store all winter. Plants are known for their unwieldy vines that will stealthy claim ownership to any garden space they have access to so give them their space.All of our plants are grown right here on our farm in Hendricks county without any chemical intervention. Seeds saved from plants grown locally will grow and produce better then plants grown in foreign environments with different soil, weather and moisture then what we have here. They also haven't been shipped long distances which can damage seeds. All of the seed that we grow and sell are from non-hybrid heirloom varieties that are all non gmo and open pollinated. All of our seed saving work is done by hand without machines so you will get some plant material and chaff in with the seed. All seed packets have been made from recycled magazines.
