This is a very univerasal bean. It can be eaten as a green bean when young or left ont eh vine to mature into a dry bean. An heirloom from the southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, the original seed is said to come from a turkey’s craw brought home by a hunter who is thought to have been an African American slave in the 1800s. The Turkey Craw bean is a pole bean. It is a heavy producer of 5-6 inch pods and can be used for snap or dry. The bean has a beautiful green color and is great as a fresh bean. It has deep bean flavor and is sweet, rich, buttery, and meaty in taste and texture. We use this bean for everything from soups, stews, baked beans, refried beans and so much more. All of our plants are grown right here on our farm in Hendricks county without any chemical intervention. Seeds saved from plants grown locally will grow and produce better then plants grown in foreign environments with different soil, weather and moisture then what we have here. All of the seed that we grow and sell are from non-hybrid heirloom varieties that are all non gmo and open pollinated. All of our seed saving work is done by hand without machines so you will get some plant material and chaff in with the seed. All seed packets have been made from recycled magazines. Approximately 25 seeds per packet.
